Osteoporosis - Porous
Bones
Osteoporosis is characterized by the loss of your normal
bone density which makes your bones weak and more likely to break.
Normal bone is composed of protein, collagen and calcium, all of
which give your bones strength. Osteoporosis is often thought of a
women’s disease, but it also affects many men.
Osteoporosis is a silent disease. You might not know you have
it until you break a bone as fractures are a common result of
osteoporosis - most of the fractures happen in the spine, hip or
wrist.
A Bone Mineral Density Test is the best way to check your
bone health. To keep bones strong, eat a diet rich in calcium and
vitamin D, exercise and do not smoke
Medications are available if your physician decides you need a
medical treatment plan.
